Liverpool Hope University is a vibrant community with high scholarly standards. We are proud of our past, confident in our present and ambitious for our future. Research is central to our curriculum development and enhancement and all academic staff at the University engage in research. We are now preparing for the 2014 REF and strengthening even further our research degree programme (PhD and EdD) following the award of RDAP. This developing research expertise builds upon and complements our already well established reputation for excellence in teaching and learning. Our policy is to combine these elements of our work in keeping with the University’s stated academic profile as a research-informed, teaching led University of distinction. It is in this context that we now seek scholars in a number of areas who will join with us in pursuit of excellence; these opportunities include the post of:
Post-Doctoral Teaching Fellow in English Literature
The department wishes to recruit a Postdoctoral Teaching Fellow in English Literature. We are seeking a specialist with research interests in the literature of the Eighteenth and Nineteenth Century, with particular reference to the Romantic period. An ability to teach both English and American literature might be an advantage. The successful candidate will hold a doctorate at the time of the appointment and the capacity to teach students registered on the range of undergraduate and postgraduate degree programmes that the department provides in English literature. S/he will possess the ability to offer lectures, lead seminars and provide individual support to students seeking to maximise their learning.
The successful candidate will be expected to teach on core undergraduate and postgraduate courses in English literature, including the course Nineteenth Century Literature. The Fellow is likely to teach at undergraduate and postgraduate levels. Some teaching may require the Fellow to deliver courses using blended learning within the Network of Hope at locations in Bury and Blackburn.
Applicants should have a proven record of curriculum delivery and development, especially in the enrichment of existing modules by research. The Department places emphasis on teaching that is research-led. Though these are Post- Doctoral Teaching Fellowships the new Fellow would be welcome, and indeed encouraged, to make a contribution to a range of research activities within the Faculty and to develop her/his research profile within the strong research culture that exists within the Department and Faculty. The Faculty will also fund the Fellow, subject to conditions, in delivering a paper at one national conference (subject to a maximum overall cost approved by the Dean but not normally more than £500). All members of the department play an active role in supporting, where appropriate, CPD, enterprise and outreach activities.
This post is a fixed-term appointment from 1st September 2012 until 30th June 2013.
